any tips for a wannabe Makeup artist?

I want to be a makeup artist one day, but right now i am just a freshman in high school. I’ve already looked at the vocational school: nothing. I’ve looked for classes around my area: nothing. So pretty much I have no one to learn from. Does anyone have any tips what I need to do now with limited resources to be able to become a great makeup artist in the future? any tips would be great and much appricated. thank you:)

You don’t want a beauty school. Beauty schools are for licensing Hair Stylists, Nail Techs, and Skin care specialists not for learning makeup.

One of the first things you can do is to go and try to find as many makeup books as you can. Kevyn Aucoin Books are really good. Also, go to your local library and look for makeup books. The old ones are really good because they teach the principles of highlight and contour which helps to set a pro apart from an amateur. See if your library has any videos on makeup as well. If not go to www.makeupmag.com and look at their book and movie selection. Practice on all your friends and all your family. Use the principles you learn in books. Take pictures of everything you do so you can see how far you’ve gone and where you might be able to improve. If you want to stay local you might look into a makeup school that you can go away to after high school. Makeup school will give you an edge and make you more marketable plus it will fill in where your self taught education lacks. Most makeup schools offer Sallie Mae Career training loans but you need to practice and do some self teaching before you attend one so you can get the full benefits of being taught by pros. Good schools are:

Complexions (Canada)
Vancouver Film School (Canada)

All of these are good well known schools for makeup. Lots of programs can help you find short term housing sort of like going away to college but for a shorter amount of time. Practice, practice, practice. You really can’t do anything professionally or even participate in any weekend workshops or any makeup artistry schools until you are 18 so start teaching yourself while you can. The biggest thing is for you to practice on anyone who will let you. Practice looks in makeup books and makeup guides and practice contour and highlight. If you can’t get to makeup school right away when you are 18 then try and get some more practice by working at a makeup counter. Makeup counter girls are not makeup artists and the company’s do not train you in artistry but learning more about different type of product and getting to practice on a bigger range of faces will help you.
